The Skilled Trades Training Fund may be an excellent funding source to help employers upgrade the skills of their workers to stay competitive in this global market. Despite its title, companies in all industries with workers from all occupations could apply. The grant process is competitive and funds are allocated quickly, so a complete and accurate application is critical. Teri Sand earned a Bachelor of Science in Business, with a double major in Personnel and Employee Relations Management and Organizational Behavior, from Miami University. She first put her degree to use with Elder Beerman Department Stores, working her way to Human Resources Manager of one store with 175 employees. From there, Teri worked as the Placement Coordinator at the Ohio Institute of Photography and Technology, where she assisted students and alumni to find full and part-time jobs. Teri worked as a Staffing Manager with OfficeTeam (a division of Robert Half International) once she moved to Lansing. In that position, Teri helped many office support professionals find work.

For the past 16 years, Teri has worked at Capital Area Michigan Works!. Today, she serves as the Business Services Team Leader. The Business Services Team assists employers in the greater Lansing region to develop customized recruiting strategies to find qualified candidates. In 2008, Teri earned the Professional in Human Resources (PHR) certification. Additional certifications Teri has earned are Business Solutions Professional (BSP) and Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF). Teri is an active member of the Greater Lansing Society for Human Resource Management (GLSHRM) and serves as an active member of the “Tactical Team” for the Lansing Area Economic Partnership (LEAP).
